It is important for the wider community to understand the many challenges which Forgotten Australians face, and the impacts of these challenges.

We are committed to raising community awareness with the aim of improving Forgotten Australians’ access to health, aged care and housing services and social support within your communities.

Community education:

  • includes giving people information about the historical treatment and experiences of Forgotten Australians
  • helps community members and services to understand the particular needs of Forgotten Australians and the role that Open Place and the broader service system can play in meeting these needs
  • focuses on giving information to educational and training institutes so that upcoming professionals can learn about the needs of Forgotten Australians and how best to support you.

The program is led by our Community Education Coordinator who also consults with Forgotten Australians and the other teams at Open Place.
